ABOUT ME
I live in Manchester with my husband, two daughters and two cats.
The cats are called Ollie and Cassie and you might be able to spot them on the
website. They find me pretty good as humans go – being a writer’s cat is totally
cool as you can sit on the manuscripts. Also my study is next to the kitchen,
so they get fed quite often. They like head-butting the computer as I work.

Happy New Year |
| Hope yours is off to a good start! This month my elder daughter is going off travelling around the wrold, and though I shall miss her terribly, I know she's going to have lots of exciting adventures, which she's promised to tell me all about. That's the problem with having a writer for a mother! I shall be travelling a bit too, visiting a number of schools - hello in advance to Year Seven of Archbishop Blanch! And also Bridgewater in Warrington. This term Paralysed has been chosen as the featured novel in 'Warrington Reads' so I shall be making quite a few trips in that direction.
Later on in the year I shall be heading up north to Angus in Scotland, as Close-up has been shortlisted for the Angus Book Award.
While I'm in Scotland, my daughter will be in Vietnam, or Cambodia ...!! |

ME AS A CHILD AND TEENAGER
As a child I was bossy and a bit of a geek. No – that’s not fair on myself.
I was desperate for approval, dying to be popular and did quite enjoy school.
I lived in north London and went to a local primary school with some fantastic
teachers. Then I transferred to the City of London School for Girls at 11.
I continued being a geek until I discovered boys. Then I became a fashion victim
and a very enthusiastic teenager. I still quite liked school. That is, I liked
learning and lessons, but not the rules and uniform. I argued with my teachers a
lot, especially in English. |
