School visits from Sherry Ashworth

I am more than happy to visit your school or library. I can offer

Author Talk:

This includes a reading or readings from one or more of my novels; questions and answers on what it’s like being a writer, book signings, a few tips for would-be writers on writing, as well as discussion arising from the issues in my teen novels.

Creative Writing Workshops:

These can be tailored to your students’ age or needs. Topics include developing character, organising plot, description, finding inspiration. For these, smaller numbers are more effective.

In-service Training for English Departments:

I can offer sessions on stimulating creative writing for Key Stages 3 & 4

I can work with Years 4-6, using The Dream Travellers as a text, or Years 7-13, where all of my novels are appropriate. I specialise in working with Year 10 and can provide sessions that stimulate GCSE coursework – explore, imagine, entertain

I am an experienced English teacher who has taught 11-18s for most of my career, and I’ve run courses on English GCSE for English teachers. I now lecture in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University.
